Huanggang Art Troupe welcomed to Owensboro!
700 Owensboro Public School students experienced Chinese Culture November 12th at the RiverPark Center. With the support of the WKU Confucius Center, we enjoyed the Huanggang Art Troupe during its United States Tour. Students from Newton Parrish Elementary, OMS North and OHS Chinese Class students enjoyed Chinese Dance, Calligraphy, Vocalists and Instrumentalists in a one hour program. Our students were spellbound throughout the event and can’t wait to learn more about Chinese culture.
We have full-fledged programs in all arts in every school! If your child wants to explore any art form, we have the chance for them to create ready for them. Thanks to a supportive school board and innovative leadership from our superintendent Dr. Nick Brake, our system ensures every child has the arts available to them.
Our elementary schools offer both vocal and instrumental programs taught by certified music specialists. Dance is an integral part of the Physical Education curriculum with performances at the Fine Arts Festival taught in collaboration with Owensboro Dance Theatre. Visual Art and Drama (Readers Theatre) are integrated into the classroom with additional offerings in both with clubs and focused small groups.
Our middle schools offer classes in all forms taught by certified specialists. The curriculum allows students to be in two art forms for these formative years with many choices in each art form. Advanced and extra-curricular offerings include Art Club, small musical ensembles, Advanced Band, Thespians (Theatre) and more. Dance began on this campus in 2011 and has grown to include 160 students each year.
Owensboro High School has a great tradition of excellence in the arts. With the oldest high school theatre troupe in the state, our Rose Curtain players continue to excel with classes for every area of Theatre. Nearly 500 students are involved in music ensembles that explore acapella, show choir, concert band, chamber groups, electric strings, steel pan and jazz ensemble. This list continues to grow each year. Talk about innovation! Our visual art studio offers nine different classes ranging from intro to visual art through cartooning, drawing, ceramics, AP studio art and more under development. Dance includes four levels of performance from Intro to Dance through Advanced dance.
Collaborations with area arts groups and Kentucky Wesleyan College along with our Kennedy Center Partners in Education help us stay on the cutting edge in our programs. A variety of internships, dual-credit courses and other meaningful experiences are developing under our District of Innovation status.
All of our arts groups are recognized in our state and region for their excellence. While we value our success in competition, our focus will always be on your child and ensuring they have the best possible experience in the arts here in Owensboro Public Schools. The track record of our graduates continuing on in life as college arts majors, as community leaders and as life-long contributors to the arts speaks for itself. There is a reason Owensboro is such an arts-rich community. Thank you for entrusting your child’s arts education to our outstanding faculty. We will do all we can to make your child a success!
