Holiday Pops Concert Will Include Many OPS Students
OWENSBORO, KY - Continuing one of Owensboro's most beloved traditions, the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra will present its Holiday Pops! concert on Sunday afternoon, December 13, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in Owensboro's Cannon Hall at RiverPark Center. The program will feature audience favorites from its past 50 years of holiday programming, including the ever-popular "Sleigh Ride," and the traditional audience holiday sing-along.
"This will be an afternoon you will not want to miss!" said Nick Palmer Music Director and Conductor of the Symphony.
A sleigh full of guests will join the Symphony, including American Idol finalist, Jenny Beth Willis, the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra Chorus, Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra, a children’s chorus made up of choirs from Foust, Cravens, Estes, Tamarack and Burns Elementary Schools, Owensboro High School Red Steel Drum Ensemble, Owensboro Symphony Brass Quartet and local actors Madison Silvert and Joe Berry from Theater Workshop of Owensboro.
"This year's Holiday Pops! concert will feature more local talent in one concert than ever before in the 50 year history of the Symphony." said Dan Griffith, Chief Executive Officer of the Symphony. "It will feature Owensboro's own at their best and we are excited to showcase our local talent!"

Thanks to some guideline changes in community eligibility provision, all Owensboro High School and Owensboro Innovation Academy students will receive a no cost breakfast and lunch this upcoming school year. OPS students preschool through eighth grade and Gateway Academy students already receive a no cost breakfast and lunch.
Effective immediately, Owensboro Public Schools is using a new online payment system called MyPaymentsPlus. The new system allows parents and students to put money in students’ accounts, specifically their breakfast and lunch accounts online. Since all OPS students will receive a no cost breakfast and lunch, the accounts will hold money students can use to purchase a la carte items.

The Owensboro Public Schools will be launching a new innovation model targeting middle school students for the 2018-2019 school year.
In its third year, Owensboro High School’s Early College program produced six students who will graduate high school with their diploma and an Associate Degree. The program is a partnership between OHS and Owensboro Community and Technical College. OHS students spend a large part of their school day during their junior and senior year taking classes at the OCTC main campus.
