Walker Named OHS Boys Golf Coach
Current Owensboro Middle School Girls Basketball Coach Logan Walker has been named the new OHS boys golf coach. Walker will continue to coach basketball in the winter. He will now coach golf in the fall. Longtime OHS Boys Golf Coach Chad McCollam recently retired from coaching.
“I’ve already developed a good rapport with students at the middle school level since I teach and coach at OMS. I hope to use that to help develop talent at an early age. I really fell in love with the game during college and have been an avid player ever since. Golf has been a way for me to bond with friends and family over the years. I’m looking forward to taking on this new opportunity to lead the OHS boys golf team,” said Walker.
“Through coaching our middle school girls basketball team, Coach Walker has proved he understands the mission of Owensboro athletics. To be a high school coach today, it is imperative to have a deep understanding of an ‘Educational Based’ athletic program and remember they are students first. When students excel in the classroom, that translates to the field,” said Dr. Chris Gaddis, OPS athletic director.
Dr. Gaddis added that any time OHS can find the next great coach internally, that puts OHS ahead of the curve. Walker teaches Project Lead The Way at OMS North where he focuses on teaching by way of projects. Walker has taught at OMS for eight years and has coached basketball the last six years. He will transition his duties from basketball to golf this upcoming summer.
Owensboro High School Red Devil alumnus Jansen Locher has been named the new head coach of the OHS Girls Basketball team. Locher has served as an assistant coach for the Lady Devils the last three years. OHS leaders have been looking for a new coach the last couple months after head coach Andy Groves resigned earlier this year.
Owensboro High School leaders have named OHS alumnus Brad Schmied the new swim coach for the Devilfish. Clayton Royal had to resign earlier this year due to a new career opportunity. Schmied comes to OHS from Daviess County High School where he was the Daviess County swim coach.
