The Owensboro High School steel pan band known as Red Steel is going back to its director’s hometown to perform at the 18th Arts on the Green, Fine Arts and Crafts Festival in La Grange, Ky. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Noon. Red Steel director/Owensboro High School assistant band director Aaron Klausing is an Oldham County High School graduate.
OPS percussion students of all ages will perform “Connected” on April 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. at the OHS auditorium. The show incorporates multiple art forms like band, choir, orchestra, theatre, dance and visual art. This unique experience takes the audience through a story via percussion.
The OPS Fine Arts Department is now taking applications for the Summer Institute For Young Artists camp.
Owensboro Public Schools are celebrating the 18th Anniversary of the OPS Fine Arts Festival at the RiverPark Center beginning March 20 and running through March 30. This annual celebration of creativity in the arts brings over 3000 student performers together for 7000 audience members over two weeks of performances.
Kentucky Arts Council Artist Molly Eric is working with students at all five OPS elementary schools to create a decoupage canvas based on a book the students read. Decoupage is a term used to describe the craft of decorating objects with paper cut-outs. v
Thanks to a partnership with the Daviess County Public Library, several Owensboro Middle School South students’ works of art have been published in a book, which is being sold at the library’s Frederica street location.
