What's Happening at Cravens Elementary
Cravens Cubs are still hard at work. Our
students that won the 2nd 9 weeks field trip Cub Cash drawing had a
great day at the Edge Ice Center! Keep up the good work and earn that Cub Cash!
Stay tuned for our next Cub Cash reward. Remember two students will be chosen
from every class.
Cravens Cubs are 100 Days Smarter! Our Cubs have been working very hard. Students and staff celebrated their hard work by dressing up as a 100-year-old person. Congratulations to all our students! We are very proud of you and your efforts.
Mrs. Wells music classes
recently had the opportunity to learn about Bill Monroe who was born in
Kentucky and the father of Bluegrass music. Cravens Cubs have been able to play
and learn about bluegrass instruments like the fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar
and bass. A bluegrass band will be joining Cravens during our next assembly.
During library media Mrs. Wood's K-4
students have been learning about the important contributions of many African
Americans. Cravens Cubs recently completed character maps focused on Martin
Luther King. Students have also learned about the Greensboro Sit-ins and their importance.
They have had a great deal of focus on cause and effect. Cravens Cubs have been
very inquisitive about the events during the Civil Rights Movement.
Cravens Cubs are back at
it and working very hard. Mrs. Simon's 4th graders have been learning about
electricity and circuits. Students built a simple circuit to light a bulb with
batteries and wires. Others have built parallel and series circuits to sound buzzers,
light lights and turn small motors. They used switches and tested their effect
on buzzers and lights.
3rd and 4th grade Cubs performed in our annual Christmas program. They performed Crazy Christmas! Congratulations to Mrs. Wells and our Cubs on a job well done! If you didn’t get to make it, you missed a night filled with lots of Christmas spirit and fun!
They competed at the Owensboro Convention Center during Owensboro's Annual Holiday Stroll. This was a project for our 4th grade students. They competed against Audubon Elementary School and Estes Elementary School. Cravens Cubs' Creamy Cocoa Team took 2nd place with $303.60 in total sales and brought home the Most Creative Marketing Award!!! We also won $100 gift card for Ms. Kramer and $250 for The Cravens Cares program! Congratulations Cubs!!!!!!
Cravens recently hosted our Annual Ornament night where we had tons of fun and a few surprises in store for those who attended. We had lots of chocolate! Brownies and special cocoa made by our Cubs Creamy Cocoa Team. Cravens even had a special GREEN guest who snuck in to bring alive our story “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” during the read along. Lucky for us his heart grew 3 sizes that night and returned Christmas. Thanks to all that came.
Cravens Cubs would like to say thank you to all the community volunteers from US Bank and Junior Achievement that took time out of their busy schedules to allow our Cubs to participate in JA. Third graders were taught the basics of financial literacy, characteristics of their city and how people of their community and businesses mange money. Fourth graders were introduced to entrepreneurship. Where they learned about starting a business and the demands of an ever-changing workforce.
Cravens hosted our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Tuesday. Many parents and family members joined our Cubs to celebrate the holiday. We are so thankful for our Cravens community. Our cafeteria was filled with lots of love! Thank you Cravens lunch team for a delicious meal and all our staff that help serve. Another successful Thanksgiving in the books.
