Estes students continue showing passion and perseverance to
earn GRIT tickets. Every time a student earns a GRIT ticket they are entered
into a contest where names are randomly drawn from each classroom. This means
the more GRIT tickets they receive the better their chances are for winning!
This time the winners will be rewarded with an ice skating trip to Edge Ice
Center in February. Take a look at this student created video about GRIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWMnPEV9GcY
On Friday, January 20, 2017 an awards assembly was held to recognize some outstanding Estes students. Students received awards for Perfect Attendance, A/B Honor Roll, All A Honor Roll, and for being a Totally Awesome Student. In addition to the award, these students had previously been treated to a special activity for their accomplishments. Please check out our Photo Gallery to see photos from the assembly. Our school photographers, Aubrey, Ja'Niya, and Sabrina, created a video that was shown at the assembly. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeEf-NUtBDs
During an assembly today, Estes students were treated to a visit from the Bluegrass band, High Fidelity, from Nashville, Tennessee. Our students not only enjoyed listening to the live music but were also educated about the various instruments being played, and learned some history of how Bluegrass music began. Thank you, High Fidelity for coming to visit us!
Students at Estes learn early that GRIT means showing passion and perseverance and never giving up even when something is hard. Before Christmas break, Estes students learned that showing GRIT really pays off. Students that had earned GRIT tickets this past nine weeks were entered into two contests where their names were randomly selected to be winners. The first student names selected, enjoyed coke and popcorn while watching the movie Moanna at the Malco movie theater. The second students names selected won new bicycles and helmets donated by our local Academy Sports + Outdoors store. Be sure to stop by our photo gallery to see our happy GRIT winners!
Each week Independence Bank employees volunteer to come to Estes to read with thirty-five of our fourth grade students. While student’s reading abilities are enhanced, new friendships are formed between the students and volunteers. This week Independence Bank invited these same students to come to the bank for a visit. The students enjoyed seeing the vault, touring all three floors of the bank, and were treated to a gourmet Christmas cookie. Thank you, Independence Bank we appreciate your kindness and generosity!
Christmas was made a little merrier this year for the students at Estes thanks to the members of Good Shepherd Church. They provided each student with a wrapped gift containing an age appropriate Lego set. Take a look at our photo gallery to see all the fun and smiles. Thank you, Good Shepherd Church for sharing your Christmas spirit with us!
Recently, two of our school photographers, Ja'Niya and Aubrey, were asked to work on a special project. They interviewed students and staff members to see what they liked about Estes and a video was created that was shown at the Owensboro Public Schools Board luncheon last week. This video shows what makes Estes such a special place: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUEtn4ES-5g
On Monday, our students were excited to see that our Elf returned to Estes again this year! He is a sneaky little Elf. Every day we have found him in a different place, and we never know what we will find him doing. Students, be sure to arrive at school each morning before 8:00 a.m. so you don't miss seeing him!
