On January 12, Foust welcomed Bluegrass band "High Fidelity" in concert. Students have been studying Bluegrass music history and instrument names. High Fidelity played various songs for the students and even had all of the students singing along to Blue Moon Of Kentucky!
Third grade students have been observing the life cycle of the painted-lady butterfly for the past several weeks. They are studying the phenomenon of metamorphosis. When the butterflies first came, they were tiny caterpillars the size of a fingernail. Students documented the growth and change of the caterpillars. In just a few short weeks, the caterpillars formed a chrysalis. When they came out of the chrysalis a few days later, the students got to see beautiful butterflies! Talk about phenomenal!

Foust looks a little more festive this week thanks to the classrooms who helped Deck the Halls. As part of our contest, classrooms were given the same tree and challenged to put forth the best student produced creation. After the ornaments were decorated, lights were lit, and tinsel strung, the judging began. Judges looked for theme, uniqueness, and creative use of materials. Once the scores were tallied, the top three trees were announced. In 3rd place was Mrs. Williams' class, in 2nd place Mrs. Blair's class, and the grand prize winner was Mrs. Condray's class! Winners will receive storytime with Ms. Moseley while enjoying cookies and milk. Congratulations to the winners and all students who helped spread the Holiday Spirit.
Santa's elves stopped by Foust Elementary this week to make preparations for the Christmas Store. Next week, students will have the opportunity to spend Foust bucks on Christmas gifts for others at the store. Gifts will even be wrapped so students can give them to someone special and wish them a Merry Christmas!
Several students were especially thankful this holiday season that loved ones joined them for Thanksgiving lunch. Foust hosted nearly 400 parents, grandparents, siblings, and visitors this past week while students were able to visit with their families over the traditional meal of turkey and dressing. We were thrilled to see so many families share this special time with their children.
Students were surprised last week when they were given the opportunity to spend hard earned Foust Bucks at the Pixie Stick Shoppe! While some spending opportunities are announced and planned far in advance a variety of pop up shoppes surprise students from time to time as well. Students earn Foust Bucks for being at school on time and demonstrating leadership qualities as well as working hard. The next big spending opportunity will be in just a couple of weeks at our Christmas Store.
Staff from the Community Dental Clinic recently conducted dental health screenings for students. This information will be useful in identifying the most pressing needs for parents to address. Our hope is through this partnership all students will experience improved dental health. Thanks again to the dentists and staff who graciously gave of their time.
