As a part of our Leader in Me process, we take our P3 and 4th grade students to visit a college campus to help establish a college connection. 4th grade students visited the University of Kentucky campus. University students took our students on a tour to see a college class in progress, view a student dorm room and enjoy the beautiful historical and new buildings set upon the campus grounds.
Agriculture Day 2017 was a big hit with students at Newton Parrish! Students had the opportunity to participate and see many things they don't often encounter with living in the city. They got to climb inside large tractors, pet pigs, sheep, baby chicks and bunnies, go on a hay ride and learn about many of the contributions farmers make to our community.
P2 students were invited to join Owensboro Mayor, Tom Watson, at Legion Park to plant trees in observance of Arbor Day.
Several students earned a limosuine ride from school to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. These students worked hard to save the STARBUCKS they had earned throughout the school year.
Student voice is an important component of the Leader in Me process. Last year our Student Lighthouse Team decided we needed an official mascot for our school. They worked hard to make that happen with a student only election. This year our Student Lighthouse Team proposed we give our Bobcat a name. Students proposed a list of names. We took that list and narrowed it down to 3 possible names. On Friday, May 12th our Student Lighthouse Team held a student only election for all students to have an opportunity to vote for the mascot name they liked best. Our students chose Baxter.
