Owensboro Public Schools has announced the dates for the 2020 Summer Institute for Young Artists. The camp will run from 8:45 a.m. until 3 p.m. everyday from May 26 through June 5.
The cost of attendance will be $150 for any student entering fourth through ninth grade. The camp is open to any students in that age range and not limited to Owensboro Public Schools students. The tuition covers lunch each day, a t-shirt, transportation during the camp and any materials students will need.
The deadline to apply is May 1, which is earlier than previous SIYA camp registration dates. Space is limited this year to ensure the best possible learning experience for your student. First-year SIYA students will need to complete a teacher recommendation form in order to identify first-year students who will benefit the most from the SIYA camp. Many art forms can be attempted without previous training (theatre, dance, choir and visual art) and some require a minimum of one to two years of experience (band and orchestra).
Students will have the option to select one “major” and one “elective” to study throughout the camp. The majors are band, choir, orchestra, visual art, drama and dance. Electives include dance, drawing, drama, ceramics and digital music.
Scholarship opportunities are available to OPS students who need financial assistance. Those wishing to explore scholarship opportunities can contact Tom Stites at Central Office at 270-686-1000.
