Following a conference call with Governor Andy Beshear and state health officials this afternoon, our district has made the decision to cancel all after-school activities, including the Fine Arts Festival, through Friday of this week. That includes practices, events and anything else that involves large groups of people outside of our student population.
School will still remain in session as planned at this time. Health officials have determined that students are not prone to this particular virus and the risk of spreading the illness at school is extremely low. The cancellation of extracurricular events is to protect the vulnerable members of our community who are prone to the virus by gathering in large crowds in close quarters to one another.
Our district is awaiting more direction in regards to out of town and out of state travel (Governor’s Cup, travel to Florida for athletics, etc.). No decisions have been made past this Friday.
We will continue to update you with any further information regarding cancellations. Please continue to practice healthy hand-washing techniques and follow other guidelines as laid out on the state’s website at kycovid19.ky.gov.
