The Owensboro Public Schools Board of Education approved the Reopening Plan for the 2020-21 school year at their regularly scheduled Board Meeting July 23.
The health and safety of our students, staff, and families is our top priority. When the 2020-21 school year begins in our district, on-campus school will look much different than previous years due to new health and safety measures. Each school district across Kentucky will be developing their own plans to reopen schools based on guidance from public health officials and state agencies and plans may be updated as the situation evolves.
It is important to note that district plans must focus sharply on academic instruction to enhance student performance and address learning loss from the end of last school year. At the same time, our district will also do our best to maintain the extracurricular programs, clubs and athletics that are so important to the physical, mental and social well-being of our students.
For our district, we will be offering two options (A/B Model or Virtual Academy) that are outlined in greater detail in our School Reopening Plan for the 2020-21 School Year.
Our district has also prepared a web page that includes the entire reopening plan as well as additional, school-specific information.
We know that families may have additional questions or concerns. Our district will do our best to answer those through email or Facebook comments, but we will also be participating in a virtual Q&A August 4, 2020 at 10 a.m. The event will be live streamed to the general public. A link for that event will be provided at a later date, however, if you would like to submit questions in advance of that meeting, you can do so at the link below.
For parents that wish to enroll in the Virtual Academy that have not already done so, can do so by registering through the same Google Form link that was used earlier. Registration will close for Virtual Academy at the close of business July 29, 2020.
If you previously registered for the Virtual Academy and wish to withdraw from the program, you need to email email@example.com.
More information will be available in the coming days. Owensboro Public Schools want to thank our families, students and staff for their patience as the district worked toward a goal of creating a plan that is safe and that provides options that work for everyone. This school year will certainly look different than in years past, but we couldn’t do it without the support of all who are impacted by these decisions.
