Owensboro, Ky. (March 28, 2024) – The Owensboro Public School Board unanimously voted to name Dr. Wendy Duvall the district’s 21st superintendent. Duvall will assume the interim role from Mrs. Anita Burnette through June 30, 2024 and will officially be named superintendent July 1, 2024.
“I have always been a part of districts that cherish their students and create environments where student learning is at the forefront of all decisions and I look forward to doing the same at Owensboro Public Schools,” said Duvall. “Owensboro is a city full of diversity and opportunities and I look forward to building relationships with our local community partners and finding new, innovative ways to work together for our students and their families.”
Duvall comes to Owensboro Public Schools after spending the last three years as Assistant Superintendent of Todd County Schools where she oversaw personnel, federal programs and title funds. Prior to her time in Todd County, Duvall spent 14 years as the principal of Hopkinsville Middle School, a school with a highly diverse, transient population due to the proximity of Fort Campbell. In that role, she improved the school’s state assessment scores and raised more than $1.2 million dollars in grant funding during her tenure. She spent the early part of her career as a middle school math, science and social studies teacher in Tennessee and Kentucky before making the jump to Hopkinsville High School where she served as the school’s curriculum specialist and English teacher for one year before being named principal of Hopkinsville Middle School.
“The board received several quality applicants from the screening committee, but Dr. Duvall’s experience in a variety of areas in districts very similar to ours set her apart,” said Board Chairman Dr. Jeremy Luckett. “The Board believes that her ability to build relationships with students, families and the community as well as her track record of leadership and student success makes her the right choice to lead Owensboro Public Schools into the future.”
Duvall was unanimously selected by the Owensboro Board of Education to lead the district at their regularly scheduled Board meeting Thursday, March 28, 2024. She will complete the interim term held by Mrs. Anita Burnette since May 25, 2023 due to the termination of Dr. Matthew Constant’s contract by the Board. Duvall will assume the official superintendent title effective July 1, 2024.
“I am looking forward to getting out into our schools and meeting the rest of the staff I haven’t had the opportunity to meet and getting right to work,” said Duvall. “I want to thank the Board for having the confidence and faith in me to lead Owensboro Public Schools to greater academic achievement and I can’t wait to get started.”
