School & District Notifications
Don't miss out on news and alerts!
Owensboro Public Schools wants to remind our students, families and the community about our notification procedures in the event of a school closing and other alerts from your student's school.
The FIRST PLACE you will hear about any decisions regarding school closings or NTI days due to weather will be via our new Owensboro Public Schools mobile application and text messages. You can download the Owensboro Public Schools mobile app at the links below:
In the app, you will be able to customize the language in which you receive the information as well as the specific school for which you wish to receive alerts.
Text alerts will be sent out via Talking Points. If you have a student in the district, you are automatically signed up to receive text alerts through Talking Points.
If you are a member of the community who does not have a student in the district, you are unable to receive text messages. You will want to download the app for your device to receive the alerts. The district will no longer use voice calling for announcements of any kind.
At the same time a text message is sent out, a push notification will come through the mobile app.
The SECOND PLACE you can find that information is on the District Facebook page which is immediately updated at the same time the text and app push notifications are sent out.
You can also tune into any of our local television stations and media outlets as they will be notified of any closings as well.
The district WILL NOT make any announcement unless school is cancelled or we decide on an NTI day. If you don't get a message from the district or see it on the District Facebook page, assume school is in session.
We do our best to allow as much time as possible for families to plan in the event of a school closure, but sometimes it comes down to the last minute. We do our best to make an announcement by 5 a.m. at the latest.
To ensure you are always "in the know", be sure to consult the District's Communication Tools page to find all of the methods of communication used in our district.
